The Iconic Puzzle Game Wouldn't Win at This Gaming Ceremony — Another Award Type May Address This Issue

As any major prize-giving event draws close, there’s always an outcry for introducing additional classifications to honor unsung work and delight the passions of followers with niche passions.

My colleague made the case for a horror game category. That would rule. So would strategy board titles, representing a passionate advocate's mission. But they will have to forgive me if I try to elbow in front since similar to single-minded supporters, I have a cast-iron argument supporting my request remains most pressing and significant. This is the request: There should be a classification for brain-teasing titles.

Organizing Gaming Categories

Classifying creative works isn't exact; it remains highly personal, and inevitably start arguments and end in fuzzy definitions. It's understandable that cinema institutions steer clear of genre categories. But it is a necessary evil within the realm of gaming, that demonstrate such variety it's challenging to consider them a single creative category.

For the full spectrum of gaming accomplishments to gain proper attention, while allowing diverse titles to have a chance for representation, genre categories are essential.

Current Gaming Award Categories

Leading game ceremonies offer these award types recognizing Action, Action/Adventure, Role-Playing, Combat games, Sim/Strategy, plus athletic and racing experiences. Between them, these classifications successfully include a lot of ground, allowing placement accommodating various experiences.

This doesn't apply to brain-teasing titles. There’s simply nowhere for their placement. Examine these examples from outstanding current releases, each quite distinct: the architectural riddles in a particular game, intense tile-matching in a different title, and the sweetly sociological logic puzzles from additional release. Which classification works within current classifications? Unfortunately, nowhere.

Recognition Challenges

Numerous examples exist outstanding logic titles released every year without proper recognition during gaming ceremonies, if they accidentally match for categories like Handheld titles, Virtual reality experiences, and the highly challenging independent game categories.

  • An iconic brain-teaser got overlooked completely during that awards season
  • Another imaginative release was excluded in 2019
  • A beloved organization game was overlooked that year
  • Limited numbers of puzzle games scraped into independent or mobile categories

Value of Brain-Teasers

Frequently they represent modest productions, but the art behind logic titles is of massive significance. Iconic mobile puzzle games count as the most-played games globally maintaining this status for an extended period.

The famous puzzle experience challenges well-known building titles for the title of most purchased experience; it additionally competes for top gaming experience. Logic titles represent cornerstones within interactive entertainment, and engaging with almost every other genre.

The Solution and Justification

Brain-teasers wouldn't encounter that issue. You could fill multiple candidates interesting, varied, worthy titles each ceremony simply — actually, with challenge, since numerous excellent many worthy titles.

To emphasize again, these include experiences that otherwise have no home in important events. Puzzle game makers function at the challenging frontier of video game design, creating some of most fundamental forms of the video game form. Just like movie stunt professionals, they warrant appreciation. Don't make them wait 35 years.
